What is Tor?
Tor (The Onion Router) is free software that enables anonymous communication. It directs internet traffic through a worldwide volunteer network of relays to conceal a user's location and usage from network surveillance.

Security Settings
Tor Browser has three security levels. Access via the shield icon next to the URL bar:
| Level | Description | Recommended For |

| Safest | Only essential features, no JavaScript | Maximum security (works with Apocalypse Market) |
Best Practices
- Keep Tor Browser updated to the latest version
- Don't resize the browser window (fingerprinting risk)
- Don't install additional extensions
- Don't open downloaded files while online
- Use "Safest" security level when possible
- Clear cookies after each session
- Never log into personal accounts through Tor
Troubleshooting
- Connection fails: Try using bridges (Settings → Connection → Use a bridge)
- Slow speeds: Normal for Tor; be patient or try new circuit
- Site not loading: Check if the URL is correct; the site may be temporarily down
- Captcha loops: Some sites require multiple captcha completions through Tor
